Opportunities for Broome, Inc. has completed the extensive renovations and rehabilitation on the apartment building located at 85 Liberty Street. The primary funding for this project was awarded through a grant from the Homeless Housing Assistance Program (HHAP), which is a program that provides capital grants and loans to not-for-profit corporations, charitable and religious organizations, municipalities and public corporations to acquire, construct or rehabilitate housing for persons who are homeless and are unable to secure adequate housing without special assistance. The program provides capital funding for the development of a broad range of housing options for the diverse homeless population in the state’s urban, suburban and rural areas.
The building on Liberty Street will be converted into four (4) one-bedroom units, four (4) two-bedroom units, two (2) three-bedroom units, and two (2) four-bedroom units. The building will be handicap accessible and will be geared towards families and individuals who are homeless and/or on the verge of becoming homeless due to evictions and/or overcrowding housing conditions with no alternate permanent residency options. Rents are based on income eligibility.
